Holiday Shopping at Work

White collar professionals will be spending approximately $500 this week and weekend on holiday gifts. Nearly 60% of those shoppers will hit the stores, but only 17% will shopp retail exclusively. The remainder of retail shoppers will also do some online shopping. On the flip side, nearly 85% of all white collar works will conduct online shopping during the pre-December timeframe, with approximately 10% doing all online exclusively. With 90% of all white collar professionals doing some online shopping, it is important to consider the amount of holiday spending done at the workplace. Consider this:

  • 1 in 3 working adults do pre-December holiday shopping at their workplace, exclusively, another 14% will shop on their commute
  • Post-November holiday shopping at the workplace or on the commute equals 45%

Although the majority of holiday spending will take place this week, holiday advertisers need to be aware of the opportunities that exist at the workplace throughout the month of December. Over $400 per worker will be spent after the Black Friday / Cyber Monday time period where impulse gets the better of most of us trying to find the right gifts for the people in our lives. In addition, post-November online shopping far exceeds that of pre-December shopping. In fact, the number of shoppers that conduct online shopping exclusively, grows nearly 80%.
